LOUISE ELIZABETH DAILEY
The life of our late Founder Rabbi Louise Elizabeth Dailey began in her nativity, Annapolis, MD. She came from a religious family, and it was this religious background that led her to becoming one of the greatest female spiritual leaders of the Jewish-faith.
Subsequently, Louise left Annapolis in the 1940s and relocated to Philadelphia, PA where she established her spiritual roots and Congregation Temple Beth`El. Stepping out on the strength of her belief that Elohim was with her, she profoundly taught her children and others under her leadership the Ten Commandments and that the seventh day (Saturday) is the Sabbath unto the Eternal. With her charismatic and gentle demeanor, she was able to convert many worshippers from the first day church movement to the seventh day movement.
The development of our temple was organized in Rabbi Dailey's home on 1527 Ogden Street. From this resident, the temple relocated to its new building at 1511 Swain Street. After a short while the membership increased and in 1956, Louise purchased the building at 1431 Brown Street. With an enlarging congregation, another building had to be purchased. So, in 1969 Rabbi Dailey purchased the site at Lowber Avenue and Mohican Street--a spacious edifice with classrooms, first floor chapel, kitchen, social hall, an upper level auditorium, and offices with equipment ready to be used.
