Earl Bowen, Jr., is a Functional Family Therapist, Fundraiser and Insurance Broker. He has worked in both the private and public sector for the past 29 years. In 1982, he served as co-founder of the Black United Fund of Pennsylvania, Inc., and headed the organization from 1982–1991.  In 2001, he became the first African American to be elected as Councilman, by the voters of the Borough of Chalfont, Pennsylvania, located in Central Bucks County.  He has received numerous awards and recognition from a variety of civic and educational institutions, including the Philadelphia Urban League and the United Negro College Fund. He was named “Outstanding Alumnus of the Year,” by Saint Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, and “Man of the Year,” by the Beth' El Men Association of Philadelphia.

He has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Temple University and is currently pursuing a doctorate in an Urban Education in the College of Education, at that institution. Mr. Bowen is a member of several professional organizations throughout the Delaware Valley, including, The Bucks County Association of Insurance and Financial Advisers, The Philadelphia Association of Fundraising Professionals, The Family Therapists Academy, The Pennsylvania Society of Clinical Social Workers and The Functional Family Therapy Institute.  He is currently chair-of-the board of directors for Dailey Care, Inc. a non-profit organization. 

Mr. Bowen is an active member of Congregation Temple Bethel, and is a member of the board of directors.  He was ordained as an Elder in April of this year, and has been instrumental in being supportive both programmatic, and administratively.  His primary goal in life is to pursue and to seek wisdom, knowledge and understanding through the study of Torah, apply its teachings and serve as a positive force for meaningful social change.      

Mr. Bowen is married and credits his wife, Debra as a constant source of inspiration. He has 4 sons, Larry, Steve, Champ and Scott.
